About Girls When

Tresor’s work “Girls When" critiques societal shifts driven by social media. The collaged oil painting uses carefully selected colours, applying layered underpainting and wet-on-wet techniques to emphasise how individual experiences influence the way we interpret visual imagery.

By incorporating found imagery that evokes different cultures and nostalgia, the work illustrates how pop and internet culture influence identity. The inclusion of 3D text saying “Girls when” alongside emotional depictions of women further explores meme culture.

Amanda Montell's concept of the “Halo Effect” influenced Tresor’s depiction of idealised female figures, echoing the unrealistic standards set by celebrity culture. Her framework helps address how media and celebrity worship distort expectations, particularly among teenage girls, leading to disillusionment within society.

About PAC Commission: Reform

The primary objective of the Postmodern Art Club (PAC) is to underscore the role we play in enhancing the accessibility and perception of art and culture. In line with the postmodern tradition, PAC seeks to challenge false dichotomies that define our world and to reform the hierarchical structures that the higher culture has established. In the inaugural edition of PAC's commission, three artists were commissioned to produce wholly original works that align with the theme of Reform. The commission's goal is to grant artists complete artistic autonomy, allowing them the freedom to experiment and create works they have long desired to create but have not had the opportunity to do so. We invited emerging artists who wanted to use this opportunity to express the reformation that is needed in society through their artistic perspective.
